So, head\u2019s up. We recorded this episode way back in early October and are only just now getting around to posting it. Between then and now a lot has happened \u2014 well, one thing happened, but it\u2019s a pretty big thing \u2014 so what we talk about here is both a little \u201coff-topic\u201d and actually oddly prescient.<\/p>\n
After traveling to Denver for the Tri-State Denver Buddhist Temple\u2019s centennial celebration, Scott was struck by the shifting demographics in BCA communities, especially those further out from the Bay Area where racial diversity is significantly more pronounced. Our conversation meanders through the old tropes of the \u201ctwo Buddhisms\u201d and the question of where \u201cculture\u201d ends and \u201cBuddhism\u201d begins \u2014 and if it\u2019s even possible to know what \u201creal\u201d Buddhism is \u2014 before finally landing on the big issue \u2014 race. Which I\u2019m guessing we\u2019ll take up in future episodes.<\/p>\n
For now, enjoy this one while watching the yule log on TV and avoiding awkward conversations about the election with your crazy uncle.<\/p>\n
